Affordable housing providers in New York have a clear, time-sensitive opportunity to secure Federal solar incentives under the new policy landscape. Key Federal program dates to secure a 30% to 70% Federal Investment Tax Credit include February 2, when the stackable “bonus” tax credit program opens, and July 4, 2026, when the safe harbor window closes. These incentives are accessible to both non-profit and for-profit organizations.
NY State Homes & Community Renewal (HCR) offers technical assistance to help affordable multifamily developers assess solar feasibility and identify eligible incentives and funding. NYC Housing Preservation & Development (HPD)-funded projects are also, in many cases, required to “go solar”.
